Polling the Nation Upgrades

We are pleased to announce that after extensive design and development, Polling the Nations has a new interface ready for use. It offers a wide array of new features, virtually all recommended by subscribers. These include:

Drop down lists for topics, sources, and universe—select a topic, or polling organization, or country from the lists.

Search history—recall all parameters of a previous search with only a single click.

Search by date range —search for results within a specified range of dates.

Find all questions from a particular survey— a button,‘View All Questions in This Poll’ enables users to display all the questions in a survey with a one click.

Mark questions—select one or more questions to be loaded into an Export Cart.

Download/print/e-mail batches of questions—select any of these options for questions loaded in the Export Cart.

Choose a search template with or without drop down lists.

Choose to go from the search template to a hit list or directly to the questions.

The underlying database of survey data from 1986 to the present remains unchanged. One difference, it will now be updated more often.

OVID Books upgrade

Dear Ovid PsycBOOKS Subscriber,

We are delighted to announce that Ovid’s PsycBOOKS Cited References are now live!

With this unique new feature, users can link from references contained in the Cited References field of Ovid PsycBOOKS to a wealth of resources, such as bibliographic records in PsycBOOKS, full text articles in Journals@Ovid, PsycARTICLES and even external full text providers.

Upgrades to Sociological Abstracts

Dear Colleague,

Earlier this year we announced that, as part of its long-standing commitment to improve quality and depth of content, the CSA Sociological Abstracts database would be enhanced with several new features during 2005. We are proud to inform you that we have delivered as promised: the following features are now available as part of a subscription to CSA Sociological Abstracts on CSA Illumina.

* The 1952-1962 CSA Sociological Abstracts backfile records, previously available only in print have been added to the database, offering subscribers electronic access to some of the early literature of sociology. Records originally printed in 1979 in Social Planning/Policy and Development Abstracts have also been digitized and added to CSA Social Services Abstracts. This combined load has added 15,946 records to CSA Sociological Abstracts and CSA Social Services Abstracts. These records have been indexed with terminology from the Thesaurus of Sociological Indexing Terms.

* Abstracts have been added to 1963-1972 records in the CSA Sociological Abstracts backfile, increasing access to this literature.

* 2,000,000 Cited References have been added to the CSA Social Science Databases. Included with Core Journal articles in CSA Worldwide Political Science Abstracts since 2001 and in CSA Sociological Abstracts since 2002, the feature has been extended to all journal articles included in CSA Sociological Abstracts, CSA Social Services Abstracts, and CSA Worldwide Political Science Abstracts as of 2004.

* Over 100,000 "Scholar Profiles" from the new Scholar Universe: Social Science service are being provided complimentary to all customers of CSA social science databases delivered through the CSA Illumina platform.

New Product Announcement-->Canadian Health and Public Policy ebrary collections

To accommodate the new public policy and health research collections we have changed the catalogue records for ebrary a bit. The new links are listed below.

Many thanks to Bib Services for all their help in setting up the links and testing the various options. marc records are on their way, so a big thanks to BibService and ITS for their work on these as well.

When setting up links in your subject pages, be cautious about just linking to the public policy or health sections, remember that a link to the entire ebrary collection will mean that users will be able to pull a much greater range of material. Do some experimenting before deciding which links to use.

1. Ebrary [new record]

The post links to a flickr site where folks are displaying their Firefox customizations. The basic point is that for many Firefox is replacing the desktop as the default display.....hey didn't Microsoft try to do this with Explorer?

Firefox is great because of the opportunities to create a personal environment suited to the individual's work and needs.
