We are pleased to announce that after extensive design and development, Polling the Nations has a new interface ready for use. It offers a wide array of new features, virtually all recommended by subscribers. These include:
Drop down lists for topics, sources, and universe—select a topic, or polling organization, or country from the lists.
Search history—recall all parameters of a previous search with only a single click.
Search by date range —search for results within a specified range of dates.
Find all questions from a particular survey— a button,‘View All Questions in This Poll’ enables users to display all the questions in a survey with a one click.
Mark questions—select one or more questions to be loaded into an Export Cart.
Download/print/e-mail batches of questions—select any of these options for questions loaded in the Export Cart.
Choose a search template with or without drop down lists.
Choose to go from the search template to a hit list or directly to the questions.
The underlying database of survey data from 1986 to the present remains unchanged. One difference, it will now be updated more often.

Upgrades to Sociological Abstracts
Dear Colleague,
Earlier this year we announced that, as part of its long-standing commitment to improve quality and depth of content, the CSA Sociological Abstracts database would be enhanced with several new features during 2005. We are proud to inform you that we have delivered as promised: the following features are now available as part of a subscription to CSA Sociological Abstracts on CSA Illumina.
* The 1952-1962 CSA Sociological Abstracts backfile records, previously available only in print have been added to the database, offering subscribers electronic access to some of the early literature of sociology. Records originally printed in 1979 in Social Planning/Policy and Development Abstracts have also been digitized and added to CSA Social Services Abstracts. This combined load has added 15,946 records to CSA Sociological Abstracts and CSA Social Services Abstracts. These records have been indexed with terminology from the Thesaurus of Sociological Indexing Terms.
* Abstracts have been added to 1963-1972 records in the CSA Sociological Abstracts backfile, increasing access to this literature.
* 2,000,000 Cited References have been added to the CSA Social Science Databases. Included with Core Journal articles in CSA Worldwide Political Science Abstracts since 2001 and in CSA Sociological Abstracts since 2002, the feature has been extended to all journal articles included in CSA Sociological Abstracts, CSA Social Services Abstracts, and CSA Worldwide Political Science Abstracts as of 2004.
* Over 100,000 "Scholar Profiles" from the new Scholar Universe: Social Science service are being provided complimentary to all customers of CSA social science databases delivered through the CSA Illumina platform.

New Product Announcement-->Canadian Health and Public Policy ebrary collections
To accommodate the new public policy and health research collections we have changed the catalogue records for ebrary a bit. The new links are listed below.
Many thanks to Bib Services for all their help in setting up the links and testing the various options. marc records are on their way, so a big thanks to BibService and ITS for their work on these as well.

Do some experimenting before deciding which links to use.

The Health Economics section emphasizes novel empirical and theoretical work on health care markets or behavior related to individual or population health. The Health Policy section highlights health-related research directed towards a sophisticated policy audience or health services researchers. Edited by Alan Garber of Stanford University, Dana Goldman of Rand, and Tomas Philipson of the University of Chicago, Forums are chosen by the Editorial Board to reflect topics where additional research is needed by economists and where the field is advancing rapidly.
International Journal of Biostatistics http://www.bepress.com/ijb/
International Journal of Biostatistics highlights new biostatistical models and methods, new statistical theory, as well as original applications of statistical methods, for important practical problems arising from the biological, medical, public health, and agricultural sciences. It is intended that the journal cover the entire range of Biostatistics, from theoretical advances to relevant and sensible translations of a practical problem into a statistical framework, including advances in biostatistical computing. Electronic publication also allows for data and software code to be appended, and opens the door for reproducible research allowing readers to easily replicate analyses described in a paper.

International Journal of Food Engineering is devoted to engineering disciplines related to processing foods. The areas of interest include heat, mass transfer and fluid flow in food processing; food microstructure development and characterization; application of artificial intelligence in food engineering research and in industry; food biotechnology; and mathematical modeling and software development for food processing purposes.
Journal of Complementary and Integrative Medicine http://www.bepress.com/jcim/
Journal of Complementary and Integrative Medicine focused on evidence concerning the efficacy and safety of complementary and alternative medical (CAM) whole systems, practices, interventions and natural health products, including herbal medicines. To facilitate information transfer to the consumer, summaries of each article will also be published in easy-to understand and colloquial language. When feasible, selected articles will be published in other languages to facilitate distribution of information to a larger international community.
Journal of Quantitative Analysis in Sports http://www.bepress.com/jqas/
Articles in the Journal of Quantitative Analysis in Sports (JQAS) come from a wide variety of sports and perspectives and deal with such subjects as tournament structure, frequency and occurrence of records and the optimal focus of training for decathlons. Additionally, the journal serves as an outlet for professionals in the sports world to raise issues and ask questions as they relate to quantitative sports analysis. Edited by Benjamin Alamar of the University of California San Francisco, articles may come from a diverse set of disciplines including statistics, operations research, economics, psychology, sports management and business.

EBSCOhost enhancements
Dear EBSCOhost Customer,
We are very pleased to announce plans to introduce several significant product enhancements in the beginning of 2006, each designed to increase the efficiency and productivity of EBSCOhost researchers around the world.
Here are the key features, which are presented in detail in our Upcoming Releases Information Table on our Customer Support & Training web site.
* Visual Search delivers a graphically-rich, extremely efficient visual searching alternative, available in addition to EBSCO's popular Basic and Advanced Searching modes.

* Printing, Emailing and Saving in Standard Industry formats allows researchers interested in citing articles using specific industry formats to choose from the following: AMA, APA, Chicago/Turabian: Humanities, Chicago/Turabian: Author-Date, Modern Language Association or Vancouver/ICMJE.
* RSS enabled Alerts allow librarians and users to feed results from EBSCOhost Search and Journal Alerts into their news readers and aggregators, as well as their web sites.
* The Option to Display, Save or Email EBSCOhost Records in MARC format feature, if enabled in EBSCOadmin, gives EBSCOhost users the option to manage delivery of search results using the MARC format.
* Context-specific Help is instantly available when users click on question mark icons.
* A Personalization Activity Report will be available for Administrators interested in statistics related to Personalized Accounts, including total numbers of Search Alerts, Journal Alerts and Personalized Accounts.
* The EBSCOhost Result List Default Sorting Option gives library administrators the choice to set a relevancy default sort for All Results on the Result List, in EBSCOadmin.

Web Citation Index
A news article in World Information Review indicated that ISI is about to release a product, Web Citation Index, that will search Open Access (OA) content, such as OA journals, pre-prints, and institutional repository content. It apparently uses the same technology as Web of Science, a tool we know well at the U of C.
Web Citation Index seems to have been announced last year (I must have missed something). Here's the February 2004 press release that announces ISI's partnership with NEC Laboratories America on the product plus a March 2004 article from Information Today.
