ArtStor improves access for academic publishing
In March 2007, ARTstor and The Metropolitan Museum of Art began a new collaboration, Images for Academic Publishing (IAP) that allowed scholars at ARTstor participating institutions to download and use, free of charge, high-resolution digital images for academic publications. Initially, nearly 1,700 images representative of the renowned Metropolitan Museum's encyclopedic collection became available through the ARTstor interface to users at all ARTstor participating institutions.
Access to IAP is now being extended to unaffiliated scholars, including those at institutions which do not license ARTstor. Scholars at participating ARTstor institutions are able to access these images through the ARTstor Digital Library. All other scholars can contact ARTstor or The Metropolitan Museum to be registered for free access to IAP.
Additional images will be added to IAP by The Metropolitan Museum of Art later this year and ARTstor is working with other museums and organizations to expand the content available through IAP.
ARTstor, a digital image library, was created in 2001 as a non-profit initiative of The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. It is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to serving education and scholarship in the arts and humanities. The more than 750 non-profit institutions currently participating in ARTstor are located in North America, Australia/New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and continental Europe.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art – founded in 1870 with a mission to collect, preserve, and display works of art spanning 5,000 years of world culture from every part of the globe, and to educate the public about art – is the most comprehensive art museum in the Western Hemisphere with a collection now including more than two million works of art.

Cassell's Peoples, Nations and Cultures
A unique and comprehensive historical guide to some 1500 of the world's peoples, from the earliest times to the present.
This fascinating and informative guide includes the myriad discrete ethnic and cultural groupings that have inhabited our planet over the past 6000 years. It presents - in a simple and easy-to-follow A to Z structure within five regionally based sections (The Americas, Africa, Europe, South and Central Asia and the Middle East, and East and Southeast Asia and Oceania) - clear, concise and readable histories of some 1500 peoples, nations and cultures: from the Assyrians of the ancient Middle East to the modern-day Armenians, from the Belgae of ancient Europe to the modern-day Basques.
Latest Additions- Brewer's Dictionary of Irish Phrase & Fable
- Cassell's Peoples, Nations and Cultures

New Content in Catalogue
American Film Scripts Online
To pull up a list in the catalogue search the phrase "american film scripts online". 568 hits ranging from Gunga Din to Boogie Nights.
Early Encounters in North America
Searching "early encounters in north america" brings up 161 records, but the real value is seen when searching an author with proper authorities, such as Catlin, George, 1796-1872.
E-versions, microforms, print, all gathered together...it's lovely.
New Product Announcement-->Illustrata
CSA illustrata, natural sciences
This is sooo cool you have to try it to believe it. Let's say a student/prof wants a graphic to illustrate grizzly bear range in the Rockies....well after a quick search they get a nice little map.

Then, what if they want an actual picture of a grizzly bear....well no problem.

We know that both students and instructors have a hard time finding graphics to use in the classroom, as well, the graphics in articles often contain key information that isn't captured in indexing and therefore searching. So I encourage you all to give this one a try and become more familiar with it.
PS: I did a search for "big foot", alas no pictures.
CSA Illustrata: Natural Sciences is interdisciplinary, covering a wide variety of journals from all major areas such as: biology, earth sciences, environmental studies, medical sciences, agriculture, fish and fisheries, education, geography, veterinary science, food and food industries, pharmacy and pharmacology, meteorology, public health and safety, water resources, conservation and forests and forestry. CSA Illustrata: Natural Sciences is the first in a series of CSA Illustrata databases of searchable tables, figures, graphs, charts and other illustrations from the scholarly research and technical literature. Coverage includes 1977 to current.

Three new tools-->new books list, books on order list, hooks to holdings in GBIP
Please send me a note if you have any questions or would like to see any changes to these.
1. New Books List
2. Books on Order List
3. Hooks to holdings in Global Books in Print
1. New Books List (BETA)
Word of warning, this is in beta, so if you use the url in web pages or give it out, you'll need to send an updated url later when the permanent address is established.
To use:
go to http://www.ucalgary.ca/~ndlall/newbkform3.html
Note that you can set this up as an RSS feed. I've done this for Library Science and it works quite well.
2. Books ordered by fund (BETA)
Word of warning, this is in beta, so if you use the url in web pages or give it out, you'll need to send an updated url later when the permanent address is established.
The new workflows module on SIRSI doesn't provide a good listing of items ordered by fund (i.e., no titles!), as a workaround Nella is providing this report as an option
To use:
go to http://www.ucalgary.ca/~ndlall/getfundordersql.html
Pick your fund and get a report of the titles associated with that fund in the current fiscal cycle. So if it was received in a previous year, it won't show here.
If you need help remembering the fund or program codes, go to http://library.ucalgary.ca/libraryinformation/collectionsservices/librarycollectionsfunds.php
I haven't used the RSS feed option, let me know if it is problematic.
3. Hooks to holdings in Global Books In Print
Yay, this one isn't in BETA and should work just fine.
This works by clicking on the Search My Library's Catalogue tab.
For example, search "spanish inquisition" and a list of titles appears.
Select up to 5 titles.
Click the Search My Library's Catalogue tab.
A popup appears, press Go.
A list will display with either "not found" or with holdings information from our catalogue.

The first archive consists of over 3,000 images produced by the Italian photographic firm of Sansoni and richly documents fresco cycles and other forms of architectural decoration throughout Italy.
